Kia has unveiled the Syros EV in India, bringing an all-electric powertrain to its popular compact SUV lineup. Bookings are now open for a token amount of Rs 25,000 ahead of the official launch later this month.

The Syros EV shares its K1 platform and powertrain with the Kia Carens Clavis EV and Hyundai Creta Electric, but its smaller footprint delivers a longer claimed range.

Charging

Kia offers both 7.4 kW and 11 kW AC charging options. With the 7.4 kW charger, the 42 kWh battery charges from 10 to 100 percent in 6 hours, while the 51.4 kWh pack takes 7 hours and 15 minutes. Using a 100 kW DC fast charger, the larger battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 39 minutes.

Variants and Features

The Syros EV is available in five trims: HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, and X-Line. The smaller 42 kWh battery is available on the first three trims, while the larger 51.4 kWh pack is offered across all trims except the base HTK.

Features include a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, and a 360-degree camera. Safety equipment includes multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and hill-start assist.

Design

The Syros EV stays close to the ICE-powered Syros in design and cabin layout. The exterior features Kia's characteristic tiger-nose styling adapted for the electric version, with aerodynamic alloy wheels and LED lighting. The cabin offers a spacious feel for a compact SUV, with rear seat comfort being a highlight.

Pricing and Availability

Kia is expected to announce pricing closer to the official launch. Industry estimates suggest the Syros EV could be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 22 lakh, positioning it against the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the Hyundai Creta Electric.
